AMC Theatres and Facebook announced today (July 19) the launch of a partnership, allowing customers to purchase movie tickets directly through the social platform.
According to Variety, this partnership was made possible through the launch of a ticket purchasing app built into Facebook. AMC Theatres claimed to be the first movie theater chain to sign up to this service, although ticket vendors Fandango and Atom Tickets have also signed partnerships.
In the AMC-specific deal, Facebook users who purchase tickets via the platform will have their online ticketing fees waived.
Stephen Colanero, chief marketing officer at AMC Theatres, said to Variety: “It’s been our goal to make the process as simple and accessible as possible for all of our guests, and we are thrilled to further this endeavor through our partnership with Facebook, which continues to expand our guests’ choices on where they purchase tickets.”
This announcement followed AMC’s reliquishing of stock from National Cinemedia and media buying company Screenvision Media for a cumulative total of $203m. AMC’s has also lent its Lincoln Center location as home for September’s Advertising Week NY.
