The partnership came as Cargo has expanded its operations to San Francisco and Los Angeles, to provide snacks, beverages, electronics and beauty products to riders. Drivers have registered with the year-old company starting today to pick up Cargo boxes at Uber Greenlight Hubs in the two California cities.
Launched in June 2017, 7,000 drivers have already earned more than one million dollars distributing over a million products to passengers in New York City, Boston, Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Dallas/Fort Worth.
Said Jeff Cripe, founder and chief executive at Cargo: “Because of companies like Uber, people spend more passenger-time in cars than ever before. This opened the door for Cargo to create an unparalleled level of convenience for a generation of people on the move, and our partnership with Uber will play an important role in making that vision reality.”
Keith Hensley, business development lead at Uber, added: “It’s always a pleasant surprise when you’re in an Uber and the driver offers you a bottle of water or a piece of gum, but up to this point these perks have usually been on the driver’s dime. Cargo took note of this and created an innovative model that aims to bring new value to riders and drivers. We’re looking forward to working with Cargo to develop and scale in a way that makes the most sense for our customers.”
Other brands listed as vendors for this new partnership: skincare brands Patchology and Winky Lux, energy bar company RXBar, and earplug manufacturer Happy Plugs. Riders have the ability to order products (free and for purchase) via Cargo’s mobile experience.
